Video Vednesday

Mmm. Goddamn.

AND recently saw Nine Inch Nails, Dead Weather, Silversun Pickups, MIA and Bat for Lashes in the span of a month. AND Massive Attack is releasing an EP in October. Musical gods, what have I done to deserve such a bounty? I didn't know sitting around eating Gruyere had such power.

The Dead Weather

"Treat Me Like Your Mother"

Such an awesome video. This gem was directed by Jonathan Glazer. I love that they're duking it out on an empty lot near a tract housing development.

Decay

I see beauty in things that are organic, yet sterile. While I'll never feel completely at ease in a lush forest or a humid jungle, there is something about the desert that makes me feel at home. It's a clean landscape - dry, sterile and still.

I find fecundity to be disgusting in the same way that taxidermy creeps me out. It's in bones and fossils that I find poetry. There's a simplicity to them, reminding me of life stripped down to its bare essence - a reminder of what we are underneath it all, and of what we'll eventually become.

I don't see this as morbid. Fossils remind me of evolution - how far we've come as a species and how far the math and probability of life in this universe will take us - us as a collective whole, us as life itself, from trilobites to pterodactyls, chimps to humans.

Because in the end, after all the breeding and breathing, the fucking and decaying, we are bones, fossils, then dust.

Banksy v Bristol Museum

Amazing graffiti artist Banksy has taken over the Bristol Museum with 100 works which feature "animatronics, installations and a sensory display." And he was able to do it under tight secrecy with only a couple museum officials knowing about it. The staff was told that the museum would be closed for a film shoot - imagine their shock when the museum re-opened...

According to Banksy, "This is the first show I've ever done where taxpayers' money is being used to hang my pictures up rather than scrape them off."

Banksy is so full of win. Take me to Bristol now!
